Research supports methylphenidate for ADHD in youths, amphetamines in adults

Findings from a comprehensive systematic review and meta ‐analysis of medications to treat attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) support methylphenidate as the first‐choice option for the treatment of children and amphetamines as the preferred choice in adults. The findings apply to short‐term treatment with the medications over 12 weeks , as the researchers did not reach conclusive findings for 26‐ and 52‐week timepoints because of a scarcity of data.
