Until recently, surgery had been the mainstay of treatment for obstruction, which however had posed a risk of serious complications. The difficulty of endoscopic approach into the deep area of intestine and the blind end of altered gastrointestinal anatomy could have been raised as a reason. Recently, the advent of overtube-assisted endoscopy radically has facilitated the endoscopic interventions such as balloon dilation for benign obstructions or placement of SEMS for malignant obstructions. The endoscopic advanced therapy for small bowel stricture or choledochojejunal anastomotic stricture has become one of the safe and effective methods.
