Nanosilica-induced placental inflammation and pregnancy complications: different roles of the inflammasome components NLRP3 and ASC

Nanosilica (NS) particles are frequently used as additives in cosmetics and foods because of their hydrophilic nature and easy functionalization. However, recent investigations caution that increasing use of nanoparticles associated with potentially harmful risks to human health, little is known about their effects on placental inflammation and pregnancy complications. Inflammasomes as sterile inflammation, are large multiprotein complexes in the cytosol that regulate the production of the pivotal inflammatory cytokine interleukin (IL)-1beta.
