Establishment of new ELISA system for HLA-G

HLA-G is considered as key molecules to protect fetus from maternal immune cells, since HLA-G is strongly expressed on placental trophoblast and has low polymorphism. HLA-G has 2 isoforms, membrane-bound form and soluble form. Especially, soluble HLA-G (sHLA-G) has been examined widely by ELISA system, and many reports have demonstrate that sHLA-G levels in plasma are lower in patients from recurrent abortion or from pregnancy-induced hypertension than in those who experienced normal pregnancy. On the other hand, the presence of HLA-G in the body fluid has been questioned, because the concentration of HLA-G in plasma was different on each report, and criteria of HLA-G level in body fluids has not been defined.
