Maternal and fetal effects of pandemic H1N1 2009 influenza virus infection on pregnant mice

Pandemic A (H1N1) 2009 influenza virus infection may become severe in pregnant women. The mechanisms that the infection becomes severe during pregnancy are not understood well. To address this phenomenon, pregnant and nonpregnant C57BL/6 mice were infected with K4 (A/Kyoto/2011(H1N1)) and the maternal and fetal effects of the infection on pregnant mice were examined. We used the 12–17 week-old nonpregnant and pregnant mice. The mice were intranasally inoulated with 50μl of 5×104PFU/body. After inoculation, we measured the mice body weight and survival rate.
