Seizure on the Benzodiazepine Sparing Alcohol Detoxification Protocol: A Case Report

In 2016, approximately 15.1 million people in the United States had an alcohol use disorder (AUD), representing 5.6% of the population.1 The incidence of AUD in medically hospitalized patients is as high as 40%.2 While uncomplicated withdrawal requires minimal treatment, complicated withdrawal involves alcohol hallucinosis, seizures, or delirium tremens (DT) and is a medical emergency.2 The incidence of DT and seizures can be as high as 15% without treatment.3
