Positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) in the Evaluation of Brain Tumors: Current status and future Prospects

Various designs of positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) systems have been recently introduced into clinical practice, which have overcome technical challenges concerning the fusion of PET and MRI. This review summarizes the literature on the use of PET and MRI as well as addresses the potential benefit and contributions of hybrid PET/MRI in neuro-oncology. Multiple functional parameters derived from this novel technology are appealing as imaging biomarkers because of its noninvasive nature, complementary information and quantitative capability.
