Clinical Applications of Pediatric PET/MRI

The recent introduction of positron emission tomography/ magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) to the realm of clinical imaging has created an opportunity for improved pediatric patient care, not only from a logistics perspective, simplifying diagnostic workflow in patients requiring multiple studies during their treatment, but also from diagnostic accuracy imaging and radiation exposure standpoints. By combining the metabolic information of positron emission tomography (PET) and the high soft tissue contrast resolution and functional information of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a single examination, diagnostic efficacy is enhanced.
