Iron status in small for gestational age and appropriate for gestational age infants at birth.

Conclusion: SGA infants have lower ferritin and total body iron stores compared with AGA infants. SGA infants affected by maternal hypertension who are born at late preterm have an additional risk for an inadequate iron store. Iron deficiency should be monitored in these infants during follow-up.
