Introduction

Reports of physicians attempting to repair damaged articular cartilage date back to more than 250 years. Alexander Monroe described the first osteochondral loose body in the ankle joint in 1737. Although a vast array of surgical techniques and biological adjuncts have been described since, the perfect approach for addressing osteochondral lesions of the talus remains to be discovered. Treatment of all the various types of lesions must be approached in a unique fashion that is tailored to the individual patient׳s needs.
