Emotional labour in palliative and end-of-life care communication: a qualitative study with generalist palliative care providers

Palliative care seeks to improve quality of life by addressing the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of people facing life-threatening illness, and their families [1]. With a growing ageing population, most care for people with life-threatening illness and those nearing the end of life is provided by ‘generalist’ palliative care providers [2].
