Editor ’s Perspectives – October 2018
In the September issue of the Editor ’s Perspectives, I talked about endoscopic mucosal resection, or EMR in short, for relatively large sessile polyps without a stalk in the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract (GIT) using flexible endoscopy. The snaring is done with a diathermy snare, either in piecemeal or en bloc. The risk of p erforation of the GIT increases with the size of the sessile polyp. Three EMR methods have since developed to decrease the risk of GIT perforation for a relatively large sessile polyp:
