Extended spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae infections in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients: Epidemiology and molecular characterization
Bacterial infections are common complications in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients. They represent an important cause of morbidity and mortality in this severely immunocompromised population. These infections are mainly caused by Gram-positive cocci but recently we have noticed the reemergence of Gram-negative rods (GNR) and increasing antimicrobial resistance [1].
