Obesity is widely recognized as a major public health problem in the United States [1]. Exercise and diet are often used as the first line treatments to reduce obesity, but they constantly fail to achieve long term success for many patients. In contrast, bariatric surgery has been proven a more efficacious long-term solution to reduce obesity [2]. In addition, bariatric surgery has been shown to reduce important comorbidities (e.g., diabetes) frequently detected in obese patients [3].
