Radiation therapy and esophageal endoprosthetics: Facts and fiction

Radiation therapy is a vital component for treatment of malignant diseases of the head and neck, esophagus, lung, and breast. It is perceived that endoprosthetics can interfere with the administration of radiation therapy. Additionally, there is concern that placement of endoprosthetics in patients who are to receive radiation therapy or who have previously received radiation therapy may have a higher risk of adverse events. The facts and fiction concerning the use of esophageal endoprosthetics and radiation therapy are discussed in this review.
