Misophonia Is a Legitimate Affliction

Thank you forraising awareness of misophonia in the July issue. The description of the disorder as “socially and emotionally crippling” is, unfortunately, very accurate. Suffering from misophonia pervades one’s entire life, even when you’re in the very field that addresses the disorder. Peers and sometimes professors in my graduate program chew gum and eat during classes and clinics on a daily basis, and my academic experience and relationships are often hindered as a result.
