A systematic review of Interventions to Reduce Psychological Distress in Pediatric Patients receiving Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy is a cornerstone in the management of cancer in children [1,2]. This can be used as a primary therapy or in combination with surgery and/or chemotherapy [3]. External beam radiation therapy involving high energy (megavoltage) beams are commonly used in the treatment of many pediatric tumors. Radiation treatment is very precise, with accuracy planned to be within millimeters of the tumor localization. Of major concern for younger patients is unintended radiation exposure to critical organs [4 –7].
