Preferences for surrogate designation and decision-making process in older versus younger adults with cancer: A comparative cross-sectional study
Worldwide, the practice of medicine has progressed from the traditional paternalistic model to a partnership approach, in which the process of shared decision making requires full information on all possible outcomes associated with each complementary investigation and treatment option [1]. This change is particularly important for patients with cancer, for whom the choice between different options often requires a difficult trade-off between quantity and quality of life, particularly for older patients.
