End-user views of an electronic encounter decision aid linked to routine depression screening

Depression is a serious medical illness and significant public health issue, affecting 6.7% (15.7 million) of adults in the US each year[1]. Psychotherapy and medication can be recommended as a first line treatment alone, or in combination, for mild to moderate depression[2 –7]. For cases of severe depression, moderate quality evidence suggests antidepressant treatment has a larger effect size than psychotherapy alone, and combination therapy may be a better strategy[7]. Additionally, evidence suggests that watchful waiting has comparable effectiveness as antidepress ants for mild to moderate depression with shorter duration [8,9]
