Information overload in patients with atrial fibrillation: Can the cancer information overload (CIO) scale be used?

Globally, the prevalence of chronic diseases continues to increase [1]. Chronic diseases often require daily self-management [2]. As such, patients need to be equipped to contribute to the management of their conditions. There is growing literature to suggest that many patients have inadequate levels of health literacy to be able to self-manage their health conditions [3 –6]. Additionally, much of the health information available to patients are written at a level higher than the average consumer’s level of educational attainment [7].
