Epidemiology of work-related burn injuries presenting to burn centres in Australia and New Zealand

Injuries arising out of, or during the course of, employment are a major source of human suffering and economic loss. It has been estimated by the International Labour Organisation that globally, 153 workers suffer a work-related injury every 15s [1]. In Australia work-related injuries are estimated to have cost nearly $62 billion during the 2012 –2013 financial year, equal to approximately 4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over that time [2]. Burn injuries are among the most devastating of work-related injury types.
