The consequences of prolonged duration of antibiotics in premature infants with suspected sepsis in a large tertiary referral hospital; a retrospective cohort study

ConclusionProlonged administration of empiric antibiotics to infants with very low birth weight along with sterile cultures is associated with the adverse outcomes late-onset sepsis and necrotizing enterocolitis. However, no association with other adverse outcomes, namely, candidiasis or maternal factors, was found.
