Patient education during hospital admission due to exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Effects on Quality of Life. Controlled and Randomized Experimental Study

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a prevalent and underdiagnosed disease, with high morbidity and mortality rates, constituting a major public health problem (1). It is estimated that by 2020, COPD will be the fifth cause of loss of years of life due to disability and the third cause of global mortality(1,2). The main symptoms are greater or lesser presence of dyspnea, coughing, and expectoration(3), causing limitations to patients ’ activities, leading to sedentary behaviour, weakness, and muscular atrophy.
