Clinical experiences with ultrasound-guided supra-inguinal fascia iliaca block: A new approach

Conventional fascia iliaca block, which blocks the femoral and the lateral femoral cutaneous nerves, has been reported to be an effective analgesic technique for hip surgery. However, conventional fascia iliaca block may not block both the nerves because the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve may branch at the cranial level of the anterior superior iliac spine [1]. Ultrasound-guided supra-inguinal fascia iliaca block is a new approach in which the local anesthetic solution is injected at the cranial level of the anterior iliac spine.
