Neck manipulation, stroke and the precautionary principle

Abstract In view of the increasing number of case reports associating stroke with neck manipulation, it is essential that patients and providers alike be made aware of the risk involved when undergoing or providing such treatment. A plausible explanation of how upper neck manipulation can cause stroke by damaging vertebral or internal carotid arteries begs for use of the precautionary principle when considering use of neck manipulation for any reason.
