The Heart-Brain Connection from a Mental Health Perspective: Interdisciplinary Research & Translational Science Developments

We read with great interest your most recently published meta-analysis review “Treatment of Anxiety in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease: A Systematic Review.”1 The interdisciplinary research between the heart and brain, both from a translational medical science and clinical counseling point of view has recently received much attention. As communicated by the authors, the burden of heart disease is the number one killer in Westernized nations. Furthermore, cardiovascular disease in the United States costs healthcare $317 billion annually, including readmissions due to non-compliance with treatment, psychosocial and other access to care/monitoring issues2.
