Editor ’s Perspectives – September 2018

In this September issue of the Editor ’s Perspectives, I am going to talk more on endoscopic polypectomy, and its recent developments in the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract (GIT) using flexible endoscopy. Polyps can develop in the upper and lower GIT, and some of these polyps have the potential to become malignant. For a small polyp, polypectomy can be done using a hot biopsy forceps. The specimen obtained can then be sent for histopathological examination. For a larger polyp with a stalk, a diathermy snare can be applied at the stalk of the polyp to remove the whole polyp with its stalk for histopathology.
