Do Comorbid Social and Other Anxiety Disorders Predict Outcomes during and after Cognitive Therapy for Depression?

Anxiety disorders are often comorbid with major depressive disorder (MDD; Kessler et al., 2005; Kessler et al., 2015). Relations of comorbid anxiety disorders with MDD treatment outcomes are incompletely understood, although augmenting or sequencing medications or psychotherapies in varying combinations have been suggested for particular comorbid disorders (e.g., Coplan et al., 2015; Schoevers et al., 2008). The current study clarified short- and longer-term prognoses of outpatients who received cognitive therapy (CT) for recurrent MDD, comparing patients with social, other, or no comorbid anxiety disorders (Jarrett& Thase, 2010).
