Editorial Comment

This report highlights several important aspects of patients with proximal hypospadias. Although these patients represent only a small portion of the overall hypospadias population, they require special care in view of the associated psychosocial and physical challenges outlined in this article. Several challenges face the reconstructive surgeon. These cases may involve an androgen receptor or converting enzyme deficiency, or a significant deficiency in the quality and quantity of penile skin, glans, urethral plate, corpus spongiosum and corporeal bodies.
