Training Physicians in Behavioural Change Counseling: A Systematic Review
Currently, over 60% of deaths worldwide result from non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular diseases (CVD, 17.5 million deaths/year, worldwide), cancer (8.2 million), chronic lung diseases (CLD: 4.0 million) and diabetes (1.5 million) [1]. Major factors accounting for the development and progression of NCDs are poor health behaviours such as smoking, poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption, physical inactivity/ increased sedentary time, and among those being treated for risk factors - medication non-adherence [1,2 –7].
