Body attitude, body satisfaction and body awareness in a clinical group of depressed patients: An observational study on the associations with depression severity and the influence of treatment
Depressed patients frequently report a broad range of body-related symptoms and phenomena such as decreased feelings of vitality; negative appraisal of the body, loss of sexual interest; and physical complaints like chronic joint pain, limb pain, back pain and gastrointestinal problems (Trivedi, 2004). Furthermore, studies have shown a positive association between depression and psychomotor retardation (Bennabi et al., 2013; Lecrubier, 2006) as expressed in, among others, decreased gait, restricted sensorimotor space (Fuchs and Schlimme, 2009; Michalak et al., 2009) and increased standing phases and slumped posture with reduced vertical movement of the upper body (Wendorff et al., 2002).
