Phenomenology and diagnostic stability of paediatric bipolar disorder in a Spanish Sample

Bipolar Disorder (BD) is a genetic and chronic psychiatric illness of unknown aetiology. The symptoms of BD usually begin in adolescence or early adulthood.1-3 A DSM-5 diagnosis of BD is made based on the presence/history of manic episodes (BD-I) or hypomanic episodes in addition to the presence/history of major depressive episodes (BD-II).4 Although the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria have identified BD as a disorder separate from depressive disorders, the criteria for BD diagnosis in children, adolescents, and adults are the same.
