Impulsivity and its association with childhood trauma experiences across bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and borderline personality disorder
Impulsivity is usually defined as “a predisposition toward rapid, unplanned reactions to internal or external stimuli without regard to the negative consequences of these reactions to the impulsive individuals or to others’’ (Moeller et al., 2001). Although impulsivity can be present in healthy individuals (Baratt, 1994) an association between impulsivity and mental illness has also been noted since many years (Chamorro et al., 2012; Moeller et al., 2001). Notably, impulsiveness is a core feature of the attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (Nandagopal et al., 2011; Matthies& Philipsen, 2014).
