Assessment of pre-operative factors in breast cancer patients to avoid the use of one step nucleic acid amplification analysis of the sentinel lymph node

Aim: To identify pre-operative factors that can predict patients who will have a low risk of metastatic disease within the sentinel lymph node (SLN). This will allow the safe omission of OSNA analysis of the SLN in breast cancer patients requiring standard histological SLN analysis rather than immediate OSNA analysis, therefore reducing surgical operating time, negating the costly requirement for OSNA reagents and improve theatre utilisation.
