Pneumonia prevents the need for lung volume reduction surgery
We describe two patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who developed pneumonia while awaiting targeted surgical hyperinflation intervention. Post-pneumonic lung function was associated with improved respiratory function that would not have been seen with surgery alone.
