De Garengeot's Hernia: A surgical challenge- Case report and literature review

Case Presentation: A 64-year-old female presented with a painful groin lump. CT demonstrated a strangulated right femoral hernia, however the appendix was not reported on.The patient underwent an emergency open hernia repair using a modified McEvedy approach through a previous TRAM (transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous) flap scar. A gangrenous appendix was found within the hernia sac -known as de Garengeot's hernia. The appendix was removed, non-viable small bowel resected followed by hand-sewn anastomosis and suture repair of the femoral defect.
