Cloacal rupture: An obstetricians nightmare - Words of wisdom

Aim: Tears of the recto-vaginal septum with intact anal sphincter are rare, presumably due to the sphincter having the narrowest diameter of the birth canal. We are presenting a rare case of a patient known with ulcerative colitis(UC),with a fourth degree tear of the recto-vaginal septum with intact anal sphincter after delivery. A defunctioning colostomy and recto-vaginal repair was performed. Learning points will be highlighted in this article.
