Intramuscular hibernoma in an adult: A case report

Background: Hibernomas are rare benign soft tissue tumours from vestiges of brown fat. Differentials include liposarcomas, simple lipomas and residual brown fat. A 51 year old gentleman presented with a 6 month history of pain/swelling in the left flank, increasingly noticeable following intentional weight loss. On examination, a 13cm mobile firm mass in the left flank was palpable, with no overlying skin changes or lymphadenopathy.
