Length of stay after elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Peterborough city hospital

Aims: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is the ‘gold-standard’ treatment1 for gallbladder disease and hence has become a ubiquitous surgical procedure world-wide2. It has been shown to be an effective day-case (DC) procedure in more than 90% of patients3. The aim of this audit was to quantify the DC rate and to identify the potential factors leading to prolonged length of stay (LoS) for LC.
