Is there a place for FDG-PET-CT in early oral cancer patients?
With interest we read the article ‘Utility of PET-CT in detecting nodal metastasis in cN0 early stage oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma’ by Zhang et al. [1]. They reported on 96 patients diagnosed with cT1 or T2 oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), a palpably negative neck and treated by resection of the primary tumor and elec tive neck dissection. All patients underwent preoperative CT of the neck with 32 patients having undergone [(18)F]fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET-CT).
