I agree with the author that urethroplasty is the preferred treatment for long or dense strictures. However, most patients have less complex strictures and many prefer a less invasive approach. I have had good results with direct incision or dilation of the stricture followed by a period of intermittent catheterization. Good long-term results are achieved in most patients with this approach, with high patient satisfaction.
