Avulova et al have performed a noteworthy study assessing the true impact of nerve sparing (NS) on the long-term functional outcomes of radical prostatectomy (RP). Walsh et al described the basic technique of NS RP more than 30 years ago.1 A multitude of studies have subsequently displayed functional improv ements to potency and urinary continence (UC) with NS vs non-NS RP.2–4 Yet the effect of NS recently has been called into question.5,6
