Patients Helping Patients Navigate Serious Mental Illness

Peer navigators can help improve patient care. According to the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Initiative (PCORI), around one in six adults in the U.S. have a mental health disorder, and “Minority populations are more at risk for serious psychological distress but only half as likely to receive mental health treatment as non-Hispanic whites.” Patients face many barriers to treatment, including stigma. Peer navigators, acting as guides and support throughout the healthcare system, can help overcome language and cultural barriers to improve patient experiences and health outcomes. Learn more.
