Commentary: Post-micturition syndrome: a neglected syndrome dangerous for the bladder and the heart

Romano et al describe a rare case of catecholamine-secreting bladder paraganglioma (PGL) presenting with post-micturition syndrome. PGLs are rare neuroendocrine tumors of autonomic paraganglia derived from the embryonic neural crest. Sympathetic PGLs are located in the sympathetic paravertebral ganglia of thorax, abdomen, and pelvis (such as bladder PGL) and commonly secrete catecholamines. Inversely, parasympathetic PGLs are located along the glossopharyngeal and vagal nerves in the neck and at the skull base and are typically nonfunctioning.
