Evidence-based Decision Making at Health Departments

Health Department staff are tasked with implementing programs that improve the health of the public. While there is now a greater focus on evidence-based decision making to ensure that these programs are effective, this is a process that needs to develop over time. The Prevention Research Center started a project in 2012 to discover how health departments can support their staff in practicing evidence-based decision making. Their report, Putting Evidence to Work for Health, summarizes what they learned from working with 12 health departments and what they recommend as action steps.
