Teaching teamwork and collaboration: A task-centered clinical design

Clinical instructors have the difficult task of teaching nursing skills, while also helping students understand that some of the most important responsibilities are not particularly technical. The challenge for clinical instructors is to teach within the guidelines of a program curriculum, which is often constructed using a patient-centered approach rather than encouraging a task-centered slant. Frequently, the expectation for a clinical experience is to assign students a patient or two to provide care during a clinical day.
