Mental Health Information for the Emergency Room

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This agency has a mission to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness in America. A recently published SAMHSA brochure focuses on offering healthcare providers working the emergency room information about treating patients who have attempted suicide. This includes information about HIPPA, patient discharge, and communicating with other healthcare professionals. In addition, information about speaking with the patient’s family is included.
