Additional practice of yoga breathing with intermittent breath holding enhances psychological functions in yoga practitioners: a randomized controlled trial

Mind-body interventions are found to be useful to managing stress (Deckro  et al., 2002). Yoga, a noted mind-body intervention has been found useful to manage stress and enhance performance (Saoji, 2016; Saoji, Mohanty,& Vinchurkar, 2017). Among various dimensions of yoga practices, Pranayama is an important aspect wherein voluntary regulation of the breathing is performed, while paying mindful attention (Saraswati,  2002). There are various yoga breathing techniques described in the yoga scriptures with their potential benefits (Muktibodhananda, 2002).
