Illicit opioid use represents one of the most harmful drug problems globally, responsible for an estimated 70% of the world ’s burden of disease attributable to drug use disorders as well as 66% of the 63,632 US drug overdose deaths in 2016 (Seth et al., 2018; UNODC, 2017).
