Effect of alpha-linolenic acid in combination with the flavonol quercetin on markers of cardiovascular disease risk in healthy, non-obese adults: a randomized double-blinded placebo-controlled crossover trial
Previous studies have demonstrated the protective effect of marine ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) against cardiovascular diseases (CVD) [1-5]. Specifically, EPA and DHA are seen to improve vascular endothelial function and reduced serum triglycerides, arterial blood pressure (BP) and inflammation [6-8]. A dditionally, epidemiological studies have shown an inverse association between tissue or blood levels of EPA and DHA and cardiovascular events [9,10].
